7:00 Continental Breakfast
Chairperson - Clive Hohberger, Vice President of Technology,
Zebra Technologies
8:00 RFID Soars at Boeing
Jeff Tolberd, Manufacturing Process Analyst, Boeing Company will reveal the results of five pilot programs
that were conducted recently at their Wichita manufacturing plant to evaluate
active and passive RF-based identification and tracking systems.. They
will discuss how Boeing plans to use RFID to improve manufacturing processes at this giant
jet maker. In addition they will detail how they plan to implement RFID
identification systems in their Wichita operation.
8:45 Smart Labels in an SAP-based Supply Chain
Dave Harty, Director of Research and Development, Acsis
will demonstrate the full cycle use of smart labels through an SAP-based
supply chain. He will analyze the system design and identify the
critical points within this supply chain where smart labels
should be used. In addition, Dave will evaluate the system by focusing
on the operating improvements and benefits from using this technology. 9:30
RFID Applications in the Supply Chain for
Personal Care Products Industry Simon
Ellis, Supply Chain Futurist, Unilever Home & Personal Care NA will
present his perspective of potential applications of smart labels in the
supply chain used for retail oriented products. He will analyze how this
RF technology will improve efficiency, visibility and security. Simon
also will evaluate the implications that smart labels will have on the
'extended' supply chain.
10:15 Refreshments
10:45 How Alien Technology will Deliver Ultra-Low Cost
RFID by 2005
Thomas Pounds, Vice President, RFID Products, Alien
Technology will describe how Alien's fluidic self-assembly and NanoBlockTM
IC technologies provide the key missing links to the 5-cent RF tag. Tom
will discuss the operating capabilities of their new chip, operating
frequencies, storage capacity, and other important characteristics in order
for end-user industries to incorporate this 'break-through' chip development
into their future RF-based identification and tracking systems.
11:30 The Use of Smart Label
Inlets in a Wireless Data Collection System
Marc Oosterlinck, Divisional Technical Director, CCL Label,
will discuss a current application in the gaming/entertainment industry in which
RF technology is used to keep track of disbursement of clients monies, rewards
earned and account information. Marc will describe the system, its robustness
and resultant economic benefits. He will show how it may be used as part of a
customer loyalty program, security/control enhancement for the fast foods
industry and other interesting applications.
12:15 Lunch
1:15 How Can Multi-Protocol Readers Ease Your SCM RFID
Decisions Donny Lee, President & CEO, AWID
will present the latest developments in multiple protocol readers and
demonstrate how they will allow RF systems to be implemented today regardless
of which protocols and/or RF suppliers are used. He will discuss
several examples of SCM projects and the options available today.
2:00 How Smart Label Printers Work Clive Hohberger, Vice President of Technology,
Zebra Technologies
will discuss the
characteristics of smart label printers and how they merge the printing
function with RF encoding. Different design approaches relative
to applications will be explored. Issues such as user
programming of the RFID operations through the label design language,
limitations imposed on smart label ticket
and tag design, and the impact of RFID on regulatory approvals will be
explored. Clive will use the new
Zebra R-402
and P-210 13.56 MHz printer/encoders
as case studies.
2:45 The Future for Smart
Labels George Gilfoil, Managing Director, CB
Consultants, will present the current findings of his on-going industry
market study of smart label technology. George will discuss the
identification needs of the major market sectors in which RF-based smart label
technology may be used, estimate their market sizes and anticipated growth
rates, and, describe the justification metrics required by these end user
niches for this technology to be more fully implemented.
3:15 Roundtable Discussion Industry
experts will discuss smart label applications being developed for supply
chain, manufacturing and general identification systems, ROI justification
metrics, barriers and challenges to future growth of this technology as well
as answer questions from attendees.

SPECIAL PRE-CONFERENCE WORKSHOP
Monday, October 21, 2002
1:00 - 5:00 The
focus of this workshop is two-fold: "How to design your own RF/Smart
Label solution" and "Developing metrics to evaluate the ROI of
your RF/Smart Label system". This four-hour workshop will assist
end-user attendees to design and evaluate an RF/Smart Label system.
